“First and foremost, we should be a state in the District of Columbia. While we’re in this interim period, before we accomplish that, we have to treat ourselves with the level of respect and seriousness that we should have and expect from Congress and that includes how we treat our senators and our representatives with staff and with payment and be really a part of the operations of the city and I think we could do a much better job of doing that, and we have to do it. And that’s something I will continue to fight for every year as we go through the budget process. We need to take it seriously, so that others on the Hill take it seriously.”
