Statehood – No Other Way!

AMERICAN PROPHET – August 11th

AMERICAN PROPHET
a new musical inspired by abolitionist Frederick Douglass’ own words and a viewing of the League of Women Voters-DC Quilts 4 DC Statehood at Arena Stage on August 11, 2022

AMERICAN PROPHET is a groundbreaking musical powered by Frederick Douglass’ own speeches and writings. Mark your calendar to join us for an evening of arts and culture, preceded by a viewing of Quilts 4 DC Statehood — a special project by members of the League of Women Voters-District of Columbia.

Frederick Douglass was first invited to speak on August 11, 1841, on Nantucket Island at the annual convention of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society, in front of a largely white audience. This first speech got Douglass noticed and put him on the path to becoming a lecturer for the society.

THE BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE COST JUST $75 EACH.
